SGTC Board of Directors recognized
AMERICUS — The South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) Board of Directors was recognized at the Technical College Directors Association and the Technical College Foundation Association annual conference in Macon recently as a fully certified board.
All seven members of the SGTC Board of Directors have completed individual board member certification training and are fully certified board members.
Technical College System of Georgia Commissioner Ron Jackson noted that SGTC was one of only four technical colleges whose board members had all earned their TCDA board certification.Jackson recognized SGTC President Sparky Reeves and presented the SGTC Board of Directors with a framed certificate at the annual conference.
The other three technical colleges that received the prestigious honor were Athens Technical College, Heart of Georgia Technical College and East Central Technical College.
The mission of the Technical College Directors’ Association of Georgia (TCDA) is to build the capability of the local boards of directors to effectively increase the real and perceived value of technical and adult education in Georgia.
Members of the local boards of the state-managed technical colleges in Georgia are automatically members of TCDA. Members have the choice of completing requirements to become a Certified Board Member through workshops and activities offered by TCDA. Workshops include information dealing with community advocacy, governance, budget and financial management, and other topics.
The members of the 2009-2010 SGTC Board of Directors are Chairman Richard McCorkle of Buena Vista, Vice Chairman Paul Hall of Andersonville, Brad Lafevers of Americus, Paul Mechler of Cordele, Willie J. Patrick of Cordele, Martin “Sonny” Shealy of Oglethorpe and Janet L. Siders of Americus.

The Sumter County Board of Commissioners has a special called meeting at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Board of Commissioners’ Board Room to discuss the approval of any contracts with any municipalities that have elected to contract with the Sumter County Board of Commissioners for providing fire and emergency services.
