Free Movie: The Americus-Sumter County Chamber of Commerce hosts a free movie event, "Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs," at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Rylander Theatre. Doors open at 10 a.m. Bring two non-perishable food items to exchange for popcorn and beverage.

Board Meeting: The Phoebe Sumter Board meets at noon Tuesday in the second-floor board room, Rees Park Economic Development Center, The meeting is open to the public.



Interactive Workshop: Ribbons, Roses & Wraps, an interactive workshop, is at 7 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Sumter County Agricultural Center, 331 U.S. Highway 19 South. Cost is $20 person; registration deadline is Nov. 30. Call 924-4476. Instructor is Cat Young. Proceeds benefut Sumter County 4-H.



Insurance Help: An investigator from the Office of the State Insurance Commissioner is scheduled to be in Americus from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 30 at the Courthouse. Garden Club: Hat'n'Hoe Garden Club meets at 11:30 a.m. Dec. 1 at Forsyth Bar & Grill for the annual Christmas luncheon. Hostesses are Mary Hardin and Harriett Peak. There will be an optional ornament or decoration swap with a $5 limit.Plan to share a Christmas idea.



Christmas Parade: Ring in the holiday season with a charming down home parade and welcome Santa to Americus Dec. 3.



Movie at the Market: Enjoy a great family outdoor event at the Dec. 5 Movie at the Market located at Lenny’s Market on Hampton Street. Admission is free. Concessions available for purchase. Bring is your friends, family and a chair. Movie starts at 8 p.m.



Cookies With Santa: Magnolia Manor Retirement Center hosts Cookies with Santa from 10 a.m.-noon Dec. 5. Local photographer Mike Dalton will be on campus to capture your visit with Santa. Hospital Authority: The Americus and Sumter County Hospital Authority holds a called meeting at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 7 in the conference room in the community room at Sumter Bank & Trust, 201 E. Lamar St. The meeting is open to the public.



Greenspace Anniversary: The second celebration of the anniversary of the GSW Walking Trail is from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 9, sponsored by the Sumter County Unit, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The public is invited.



Food Service Training: Servsafe® Training for Food Service Managers presented by UGA Cooperative Extension is Jan. 13-14 at the Sumter County Agricultural Center, 331 U.S. Highway 19 South. Wreaths Across America: Andersonville National Cemetery hosts the annual ceremony at 11 a.m. Dec.12. All wreaths must be delivered to the site by noon Dec. 11. If you or your organization would like to volunteer to assist with the laying of these wreaths, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Lindsey Phillips, Andersonville National Historic Site at 924-0343 no later than Dec. 1. If you, your family, organization or business is interested in sponsoring a 20-inch Frasier Fir wreath with a red velveteen bow, contact your local florist to make arrangements.

Safety Signs: The Sumter County Extension Office, 331 U.S. Highway 19 South, offers a safety address sign to residents and property owners. The blue sign is made of 12” by 6” engineering grade sign material with 4” No. M reflective numbers and/or letters. It is attached to a 36” metal post. The sign is highly visible at night and easily spotted during the day time. Signs are $18 and a portion of the proceeds go to the local 4-H Club youth program. Volunteers Needed: Several residents at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center enjoy getting out of the facility whenever possible. Volunteers are needed to assist residents with their weekly menus. Volunteers would be needed Thursday or Fridays to help residents mark and read the food items they would have as their meals.
