NICHOLSON — Investigators are trying to determine the cause of death of a 52-year-old Jackson County man who was found dead outside his burning mobile home.

Steve Nichols of Jackson County Emergency Services says Nicholson firefighters found Timothy Lee Thompson dead when they responded to the blaze just before midnight Tuesday.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports Nichols said Wednesday that firefighters contained the fire to two rooms but there was smoke and fire damage throughout the trailer.

Thompson’s body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Decatur for autopsy.

Glenn Allen, a spokesman for the Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner’s office in Atlanta, says investigators would try to determine the cause of the fire on Thursday.
