Powering up in Ellaville
Power Alley works 24-7 to get its members in shape
ELLAVILLE — It’s that time of year. The “downtime” between Thanksgiving and Christmas is when most people spend in and out of stores shopping for that perfect gift, at a Christmas party, or behind the table of a great holiday feast. After those times, though, when people start feeling down about the insane amount of food that they’d consumed during the holiday season.
That’s when people start to think about their New Year’s resolutions. It is at that time of realization, that Scotty Layfield hopes people will remember his business.
Layfield recently opened Power Alley 24-7 in the old Tondee’s Grocery Store in downtown Ellaville. Power Alley is a new gym, which offers members a large variety of fitness equipment .
The business also offers one thing that will strike the interests of those who are still debating on joining, and that is 24-7 access to the gym. Upon membership and payment of fees, each member of the gym is given a key to be able to work out at their convenience.
Layfield summed up the reasoning behind this by saying, “Not everyone can get the chance to get to the gym during normal hours. Some people work nights, or we might be closed for the holidays, so this gives members the chance to work out whenever it is convient for them.”
Layfield, who grew up in Macon County, has had a passion for fitness since high school, and credits weight training for his ability to progress his career in baseball. Layfield played baseball at Macon County High School before attending Valdosta State University, where he furthered his baseball career. After college, in 1999, he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals organization, where he spent a few years alternating between leagues.
“This has been my passion from high school and throughout my baseball career. Elllaville is a town that needed a place where people could go and exercise without having to drive to Americus.”
Power Alley charges month by month or every three months with no enrollment fee. They offer special discounts for students, military, Law Enforcement, EMT’s Fire fighters, local businesses and as well to groups of 10 or more.
Power Alley 24-7 is on Oglethorpe Street in Downtown Ellaville. For more information on this new business or to obtain a membership, contact 937-9330.
