AMERICUS —
As the news of Perry Wellness Center Americus continues to be shared, Stuart Perry, founder of the Americus Center has formed plans to recreate his "Journey for Life." In his book, "Stuart Perry's Journey for Life," by Rudy Hayes, the first-hand account of Perry's amazing 1,000-mile walk from Americus, Georgia to Chicago, Ill., began a thrust of awareness issues concerning depression and mental illness. After Perry's selection as the top Mental Health Provider in Georgia in 2011, the center's founder renewed his commitment to expand additional wellness centers in Southwest Georgia. Many have equated his efforts to an early Habitat for Humanity. Habitat's mission was and is to provide a decent house for people in need. Now Perry wants to provide a wholesome mental life for many people who suffer from mental disease.
With the thriving educational and physical wellness program already in Americus and Sumter County, Perry plans a future walk across Sumter County in the spring to renew the awareness of his first Perry Wellness Center before he expands his program sharing to other counties in Southwest Georgia.
"I never thought that the trauma of my dad's death in my presence would create such a bonding in my family and a personal determination to increase awareness of mental health issues in our area. I enjoyed my widespread appearances for mental health issues but feel that my voice and efforts are needed more in the Southwest Georgia area. With a new diet and daily exercise with peer members and an early morning walk with my canine daughter, ‘Gracie,’ I am trying to better my health for our upcoming walk," said Perry.
itizens of Sumter County and the area are invited to visit Perry Wellness Center on at 302 E. Furlow St., Americus. On this site, visitors will enjoy an expanding market inventory and find fun, color, happiness and a genuine understanding of the plight of those who suffer from depression and mental illness.
