AMERICUS —
A 17-year-old was shot in the early morning hours of Saturday.
Americus Police Chief Mark Gerbino said officers responded to the Parkview Apartments area at 2:30 a.m. Saturday to the report of a shooting. He identified the victim as Tykerrious White, 17.
Gerbino said White was shot in the abdominal area and was taken by EMS to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, and has been uncooperative with police in their investigation.
“We’re asking the community for help in this since the victim is being uncooperative,” Gerbino said. “It’s not uncommon in a situation like this for people to be hesitant to talk to police; however, we’re establishing and should have operative soon, a crime watcher hotline which will allow people to call anonymously.”
The police chief said that in the meantime, police can still deal with people confidentially.
“Violence like this is not acceptable in the community. We still have to follow up and find out who the perpetrators are even if the victim remains uncooperative,” he said.
