ROSEMONT, Ill. —
US Foods, one of the country’s most innovative food companies and leading distributors, on Thursday announced it has agreed to acquire Glover Wholesale Co.. Glover is a leading foodservice distributor based in Americus.
Founded in 1892, by George Washington Napoleon Bonaparte Glover as a wholesale distributor, the company generates more than $90 million in annual sales and serves approximately 2,500 customers throughout Georgia, eastern Alabama and northern Florida.
“Glover is a strong company that has made a name for itself as a reliable food distributor, dedicated to customer success,” said Keith Campbell, south region president, US Foods. “Adding Glover’s business in the Southeast will enable us to introduce US Foods’ unique brand, innovative food culture and trend-setting products to new customers, and expand our coverage throughout the region.”
Glover Wholesale Co. President and CEO David Harris will join US Foods as the director, business development, in central Georgia.
“As one of the nation’s largest food companies, US Foods offers Glover’s customers access to innovative products, exclusive brands and expert services to help them succeed and stand out from the crowd,” said Harris. “US Foods has a rich heritage in the Southeast of providing an easy service experience, and the addition of the Glover team will only increase the company’s tradition of excellent customer service.”
The transaction is expected to close in early October. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
According to US Foods spokesman, Glover employs about 150 in Georgia, about 40 of whom are in Americus. The majority of the Glover sales staff has been offered positions with US Foods. The warehouse and delivery personnel will remain with the company until the transition of the business has been completed, currently projected as the beginning of 2013. Glover employees will then have the opportunity to apply for open US Foods positions.
By early 2013, Glover will close its Columbus and Americus facilitates. US Foods will consolidate the work of those two facilities into larger, more efficient facilities in Atlanta and Montgomery, Ala.
