AMERICUS —
SIFE International announced that Matt Loper, an advisor for Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) at Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW), has been named a distinguished Sam Walton Fellow for 2011.
At a ceremony at GSW, Loper donated the $500 given to him by Campbell Soup to Rebekah Tate, president of the GSW SIFE team.
Tate said, “Matt always helps us be successful, and he is a major reason we qualified to go to SIFE nationals last year in Minneapolis.”
Loper has been a Walton fellow for the last three years where SIFE has won at the Regional competitions every year. This year he was faced with a much larger task helping a new faculty advisor learn the in’s and out’s of SIFE.
“We could not have been as successful without Matt in my first year,” John Stovall, Ph.D., and GSW SIFE faculty advisor. “I basically was unfamiliar with many of the projects that have made GSW SIFE successful over the past few years. He got the team up to speed, and not only did we do well at competitions, we also won several awards at the regional completion in Atlanta naming us one of the top SIFE teams in the country.”
Loper is a double graduate at GSW getting an undergraduate degree in computer information systems and a master’s in business administration. He is currently employed at GSW in the information technology department. He is originally from Atlanta but now feels Americus and GSW is his home.
“SIFE really helped me understand the bigger picture of business and service when I was a student at GSW,” said Loper. “I think of all the people who donated to SIFE to afford the travel involved with being a successful team, and because of my experiences with SIFE, I wanted to help them succeed in the future.”
