AMERICUS —
In a press release Friday, Americus Mayor Barry Blount announced the pending retirement of Charlotte Cotton, the City’s chief administrative officer (CAO).
In the release, Blount says Cotton has been with the City for 31 years, the last eight and one-half as the CAO. Her retirement will be effective May 31, 2013.
“I want to thank her for all of her service not only to the Mayor and Council but to the citizens of Americus. I hope you will join me in wishing her a happy retirement!,” Blount says in the release.
The mayor also says the City will immediately begin advertising for the CAO position.

Ru Story-Huffman named dean of GSW’s James Earl Carter Library
Ru Story-Huffman, interim dean of the James Earl Carter Library at Georgia Southwestern State University, was officially named dean. Prior to her role as interim dean, Story-Huffman served as reference librarian and government information coordinator at the Carter Library. She succeeds Vera Weisskopf who retired in March 2012.
