DAWSON — The Lower Chattahoochee River Soil and Water Conservation District and its cooperating banks held its annual “Conservationists of the Year” awards program on Feb. 11th at the USDA Service Center in Dawson.
Highlighting the program was the announcement of the “Conservationist winners of the Year” from the nine counties: Clay, Lee, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Terrell and Webster, which comprise the Lower Chattahoochee River Soil and Water Conservation District.
Each winner was awarded with a sign to place on their property, as well as a certificate with the farm/individual name. Through their hard work and dedication, the conservationist winners have not only improved their land, but they have improved their community and nation as well. It was a night of smiles as Jim Melvin provided entertainment for the event. Another highlight of the evening was the excellent seafood meal provided by Old Times and Bill White Catering.
County winners from the local area are Schley County: Robert Fletcher, Sumter County: Mark Israel Farms and Webster County: Goodwin Brothers Farm.
