Operation Christmas Child kicks off soon
Operation Christmas Child (OCC) will hold its kickoff Sept. 14 at First Baptist Church on South Lee Street.
OCC was started in 1993, and is a part of Samaritan’s Purse (SP), an organization founded by Franklin Graham. Since its start, OCC has sent boxes to over 130 countries. -
Rebuilding
Desmond Fuller and Elmore Fuller Jr. worked to repair the damaged wall at Attorney J.Michael Greene’s office, 702 S. Lee St. Wednesday. The building was damaged when a car jumped the curb and crashed into its brick exterior, leaving a large hole.

National Prisoner of War/Missing in Action
(POW/MIA) Recognition Day is Sept. 17. In honor of that day, the
Andersonville National Historic Site, location of the National Prisoner of War Museum, the Friends of Andersonville, and Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) are hosting the 2009 National POW/MIA Convocation at 11 a.m. Sept. 15 in Georgia Southwestern's Fine Arts Building. The public is invited. -

River Valley’s jobless rate dips slightly to 10.4 percent in July
The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) reported today that the preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate in the River Valley area declined to 10.4 percent in July, down one-tench of a percentage point from a revised 10.5 percent in June.
