Marvin S. Childers

AMERICUS — Mr. Marvin S. Childers, 90, passed away Friday afternoon, April 6, 2012, at his residence in Smithville. Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Smithville Methodist Church. Rev. Brooks Partain will officiate. A visitation, beginning at 11 a.m., will be held directly preceding the funeral service at Smithville Methodist Church. Interment with military honors will follow in Smithville Cemetery.

Born October 8, 1921 in Smithville, he was the son of the late Maude Childers and Leila Fletcher Childers. Mr. Childers was a very active long-time member of Smithville Methodist Church, a member of the Lee County Farm Bureau where he was a past president, an Air Force veteran of World War II where he serviced and maintained aircraft, and was a self employed Lee County farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Hurst Childers; sons: Steve Childers & his wife VelRae and Wallace Childers; daughters: Ann Hall & her husband Jim, Winifred Childers, Carol Turner & her husband Jimmy, and Jane Morris & her husband Dale; grandchildren: Jay Hall, Matt Hall, Victor Castrejon & his wife Tara, Brian Casey, Cory Morris, Collin Morris, Ashley Morris, Todd Childers & his wife Moranda, Ben Childers, Jack Childers, and Caryn Childers; great-grandchildren: Gracie Harbuck, Lauren Elizabeth Hall, Addison Phillips, Rileigh Jones and Lilla Childers; and a close family friend, Carol Brinsfield.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Smithville Methodist Church, P.O. Box 515, Smithville, GA 31787, or to a charity of choice.

Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., is in charge of arrangements.
