Gladys Pope Ellis

AMERICUS — Gladys Pope Ellis, age 95, of 2001 S. Lee St., died at Magnolia Manor Friday, January, 18, 2013. A native of Coffee County, Ala., she was born March 8, 1917, the daughter of the late Charles Tip and Unice Folsom Pope, Sr. Mrs. Ellis was a member of Lee Street United Methodist Church and was a homemaker. She was raised in Americus and her and her late husband Hubert returned here in 1999 to reside at Magnolia Manor.

A celebration of Mrs. Ellis’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2013 at the Martha McDonald Moore Chapel at Magnolia Manor with Rev. Matt Stewart officiating. A private burial will be held following the service. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to League of the Good Samaritan, Magnolia Manor, 2001 S. Lee St., Americus, Ga. 31709 or Lee St. United Methodist Church, 1102 S. Lee St., Americus, Ga. 31709.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Pope and Elaine M. Henderson of Americus; two grandchildren, Alan Henderson and Joni Per-Lee; four great grandchildren, Katelyn and Abigail Per-Lee and Dennis and Kenneth Henderson; a sister, Mary Wolfe of Macon and a brother, Charles Tip Pope, Jr. of Americus. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert H. Ellis.

    Jakob Colton Stubbs, age 10, of Ellaville, Ga.,  died early Wednesday morning at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger in Chattanooga, Tenn. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013, on the Ellaville/Schley Co. Recreation Baseball Field No. 2 with burial to follow in the Ellaville Cemetery. Pastor Will Rayburn and Brother Troy Fripp will officiate.

    Dr. Augusto Lopez, 84, passed away Monday evening, May 20, 2013, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.
    A funeral mass is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Clif Marquis officiating.
    A rosary service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday evening, May 24, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, followed by visitation at the family home, 309 Eckles Road, beginning at 7 p.m.
