Joseph Clarence Bryant Sr.: January 26, 2013

PLAINS — Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Clarence Bryant Sr. of Plains, Ga.,  who passed on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Stewart-Webster Hospital, Richland, Ga., will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Lebanon Baptist Church. The Rev. Hosie Waters will officiate and burial will follow in the Lebanon Cemetery. The remains will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the services.

 Mr. Joseph Clarence Bryant, known as “J.C.” to many and “Uncle Jake,” was born on July 6, 1930, in Webster County, Ga., to the parentage of the late Mr. Burlond Bryant and the late Mrs. Bessie Lee Raven Bryant. He was educated in the public schools of Webster County. At an early age, he joined the Lebanon Baptist Church, where he was a member of the choir. He was also a member of the St. Bartholomew Lodge No. 177, The Soul Stirrer Gospel Singer. He was a bus driver for the Sumter County School System. He was a mechanic by trade with a sharp ear. He is preceded in death by six siblings, Gladys Watson, Essie English, Johnnie Bryant, Burlond Bryant Jr., William Bryant and Marie Payne; a daughter, Essie Barner. He was married to the late Mrs. Jessie B. Hamilton Bryant. To their union 10 children were born.

He leaves to cherish his memories, 11 children, Ms. Mary Bryant, Plains, Ga., Mr. Joseph C. (Elaine) Bryant Jr., Ms. Gwendolyn Bryant, Mrs. Verna (Alexander) Thomas, Ms. Annie B. Bryant, Mr. William (Sebrina) Bryant, Mr. Willie (Pam) Bryant, Mr. Wilbur Bryant, Americus, Ga., Mrs. Elizabeth (Nate) Jackson, Jacksonville, Fla., Ms. Nancy Bryant Green, Albany, Ga., and Mr. Joseph (Catherine) Perry, Washington, D.C.; four sisters, Ms. Nathelma Bryant, Plains, Ga., Mrs. Clottee (Jessie) Wadell, Albany, Ga., Mrs. Bessie (George) Cole, Springfield, Mass., and, Ms. Occie Washington, Henryville, Pa.; his companion, Ms. Grace Lucas; six adopted children, Zelda, Fannie Mae, Doris and Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., Annie B (Johnnie) and Ruth of Americus, Ga.; 31 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 10 adopted grandchildren; and a host of nieces, including devoted nieces, Mrs. Shirley (Mack) Polk, Ms. Orangie Busby and Ms. Gail Wadell, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, including Mr. Eric D. (Suleania) Bryant, cousins other relatives and friends, including his loving church family, the Rev. and Mrs. Hosie Waters, his hospice caregiver, aides and volunteers, Marilyn Ponder, Minister Eugene Lewis, Mr. Derrick T. Bryant, Illene Finch and Lashun White also survive.

Barnum Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

    Marie Israel-Manry died on May 6, 2013, at her home, Magnolia Manor in Americus, Ga. A visitation will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, at Harvey Funeral Home in Dawson. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11 at Bronwood Baptist Church, followed by interment at the Williams Cemetery near Smithville. A memorial service will then be held at 3:30 p.m. at Magnolia Manor.
