Janet Siders plans to retire as HR director at GSW

AMERICUS — After serving as Georgia Southwestern State University’s (GSW) director of Human Resources (HR) since 2005, Janet Siders will retire effective July 1, 2013. The search for a new HR director will begin soon. President Kendall Blanchard made the announcement this week.

“Ms. Siders has not only served this institution well as the director of our HR Department, she has also been a key advisor to me and other members of the GSW administration,” said Blanchard. “In addition to playing an important role at GSW, she has also been a leader among HR directors within the USG System. So, both here at the University and across the System her wealth of experience, expertise and ready wit will be missed.”

“The time I’ve spent at GSW has been great, and I really have enjoyed working here,” said Siders. “I can’t believe it’s been almost eight years. I thought it would be difficult making the adjustment to higher education, but the people here are wonderful and I’ve made many great friends. Georgia Southwestern is a fantastic institution, definitely a jewel in South Georgia, and I will miss it dearly.”

While leading the GSW Department of Human Resources, Siders created an online sexual harassment training program; rolled out the PeopleAdmin online applicant tracking system; engaged Ameriflex to administer the flexible spending program, which had previously been handled manually by Department of Human Resources staff; and created the GSW Staff Senate and acted as an ex-officio member.

Prior to joining the GSW staff nearly eight years ago, Siders was human resources manager at Textron/Collins & Aikman in Americus for six years. Before that, she worked for various subsidiaries at Prudential Financial, which is where she became interested in personnel training and development and human resource management. Siders also worked as a staff writer with the New York Times Information Service for two years.

Community service involvement is very important to Siders. Currently she sits on the board of directors for the Flint River Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Friends of the Rylander, and she serves on the Americus Employer Committee. Her past involvement includes serving as co-chair of the Middle Flint Girl Scout Council executive board, the Archway Partnership, the South Georgia Technical College Foundation board of trustees, and the United Way, to name a few.

At GSW, she participates annually with Move-In Day, Student Appreciation Day and Campus Pride Day, and is a member of the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD) Committee. She also serves as an official for intercollegiate tennis matches at GSW.

 Siders graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in education. Her hobbies include tennis, reading, golf and travel. She has two daughters, Allison and Erin, and two grandchildren, Isaiah and Maia.
