GSW Foundation has fall meeting, re-elects trustees, receives special gift

AMERICUS — The Georgia Southwestern Foundation Board of Trustees held its fall full board meeting Nov. 9. The group re-elected two current members and granted life trustee status to Greg Austin and Emory Parker Jr.

Nominated and elected by their peers, the 28-member group provides external oversight to the Foundation’s operations. Trustees accepting additional three-year terms are George Pritchard (’73) who is retired from the London Agency in Atlanta, and Neil Suggs (’77), owner and president of Marble Masters in Warner Robins.

At the end of the meeting, Life Trustee Judge Mike Greene (’79) presented a 1926 edition of “Le Résumé” — the first volume of Georgia Southwestern’s annual yearbook — to Foundation Chair Jimmy Skipper. This is the only known copy of the 1926 edition on GSW’s campus. In 1926, Georgia Southwestern State University first began offering two years of college work and was known as the Third District Agricultural and Normal College.

The Foundation provides funds for Georgia Southwestern and manages assets and gift accounts for the University. The Foundation’s purpose is to promote in various ways the cause of higher education in the state of Georgia, with particular emphasis on the development of Georgia Southwestern State University.
