Culinary students win silver in competition

From Staff Reports

AMERICUS — As acclaim increases for the Career Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) program at Americus-Sumter South Campus, the Culinary Department traveled to Marion County for a Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) competition.

The almost three-hour competition involved three students from Marion County High, Perry High School, Houston County High, Crisp County High and Americus-Sumter County High School. Upon arrival, each school delegation was presented a cold-food recipe for creative preparation.

From Americus Sumter High, Tiffany Albritton prepared a chocolate E’Clair in Trifle Dish; Albritton hopes to become a pastry chef. Katie Lee prepared a berry smoothie and hopes to start her own catering business. Terry Cummings created a tuna salad pita pocket and want to become a head chef and food artist after graduation.

“I am proud of these girls. To have a new recipe given to you upon arrival at the contest can be a challenge. They solved the problem and won second place and the silver metal for their creative talents,” said Culinary Arts Teacher Kelly Newcomb.
