Taylor named SGTC January Student of the Month
AMERICUS — South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) air conditioning technology student Patrick Taylor of Americus was named Student of the Month for January during the college’s Student Recognition Ceremony held in the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on the Americus campus recently.
Taylor received a plaque of recognition and a financial award from SGTC for his accomplishments. He was nominated for this honor by SGTC air conditioning technology instructor Glynn Cobb.
“I’d like to thank my instructors, Mr. Glynn Cobb and Mr. Glen Redding,” said Taylor, “and I’d also like to thank South Georgia Tech for giving me this opportunity.”
“I was very proud when Dr. (Robbie) Latimore (vice president, academic affairs) announced my student’s name,” said instructor Cobb. “Patrick is always here on time and is a great student. It was hard to pick a nominee, however, because I have so many great students!”
Upon graduation, Taylor plans on furthering his family’s business, King’s Custom Builders of Ellaville.
Each month students from certain programs selected for that month are nominated for the Student of the Month award by their instructors. This month’s ceremony recognized students in technical and industrial programs at SGTC. The winner is selected based on grades, work ethic, participation in clubs and organizations, and how much of their program of study they have completed. Each nominee is presented with a certificate and a SGTC Student of Excellence T-shirt.
Other students nominated for the month of January include: Michael Jones of Montezuma, environmental horticulture; Joshua Brandon Love of Leesburg, industrial electrical technology; Angela Merritt of Americus, electronics technology; Franklin Pearce of Lumpkin, drafting technology; Robert L. Stringfellow of Ellaville, welding and joining technology; Bobby Turner of Leary, industrial systems technology; and Robbie Williams of Cordele, machine tool technology.
Nominating instructors were Mark Collier, environmental horticulture; James Halford, industrial electrical technology; Mike Collins, electronics technology; Chris Royal, drafting technology; Duane Register, welding and joining technology; Phil Deese, industrial systems technology; and Gil Pittman, machine tool technology.
