GSW hosts Sumter County Economic Outlook Lunch Feb. 5

AMERICUS — The Center for Business and Economic Development at Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) hosts the 18th annual Sumter County Economic Outlook Luncheon Tuesday at 1 p.m. Feb. 5 in the Thomas O. Marshall Jr. Pavilion Private Dining Room. This event is co-sponsored by the Americus Rotary Club. Featured speakers are Phil Szmedra, Ph.D., and Randall Valentine, Ph.D., from the Georgia Southwestern School of Business Administration.

The current GSW Featured Scholar, Szmedra is a professor of economics and has been a member of the University faculty since 2001. His research interests are in the field of development economics, public health issues in the developing world and problems facing small, island developing states. Szmedra earned a bachelor of Arts in economics from Pennsylvania State University and a master of science and a doctoral in agricultural economics from the University of Georgia.

Valentine joined the GSW School of Business faculty in 2005. He has published over 30 articles in finance and business journals, and he serves as a consultant to various national and international corporations. Valentine earned a bachelor of science in finance from Arkansas State University and a master of science and doctoral in finance from Mississippi State University.

Szmedra and Valentine’s program will focus on the current economic conditions in Southwest Georgia and will provide an economic forecast for the area.
