PRESTON —
In Pamela Alridge’s fifth-grade social studies classes at Webster County Schools, students learned about causes of the Civil War and battles of the Civil War.
One student, Noah Metheny, wrote a song called “Gettysburg.” His song tells a story about the battle of Gettysburg. He shared his song with his class. The students enjoyed the lyrics of the song and the melody he played from his guitar. Several of Noah’s classmates joined in and presented his song with him for the other fifth-grade class. They waved, clapped and sang background for him.
Students are encouraged to be creative and to infuse their talents/interests into their learning as often as possible. This makes learning fun and meaningful for the students.
