AMERICUS — Southland Academy’s High School Chorus recently visited the Mattie Marshall Center of Magnolia Manor to sing Christmas carols to the residents. The students enjoyed singing familiar carols such as ‘Joy to the World,’ ‘O Holy Night’ and ‘Silent Night.’ The residents enjoyed the music and especially enjoyed the girls visiting with them.

Thirteen graduate from SGTC Law Enforcement Academy
South Georgia Technical College’s (SGTC) Law Enforcement Academy (LEA) recently held a graduation ceremony for its most recent graduates in the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on SGTC’s Americus campus. Thirteen individuals were recognized and received their Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification.

Schley County Family Connection honors top two high school seniors
Schley County High School senior class valedictorian Ali Anderson and salutatorian Geena Hollis were honored at the April meeting of the Schley County Family Connection Collaborative.

High school team heading to World Finals
This school year marked the first time that the Sumter County School System has produced an Odyssey of the Mind team in the high school-age category, and the team will travel May 22-25 to East Lansing, Mich., to compete in the World Finals competition. The team, from Americus-Sumter County High School (ASHS) North Campus is made up of ninth-graders Sarah Dye, Thomas Edge, Jacob Pritchard, Morgan Cloutier, Logan Bennett and Elliot Bennett.
