Schley Elementary recognized as a ‘Highest-Performing School’

ELLAVILLE — On Oct. 31 the Georgia Department of Education released a list of Reward Schools as part of the waiver from the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. The category is reserved for schools with the highest performance or the biggest academic gains by students in the last three years.

A “highest performing school” is a Title I school among the five percent of Title I schools in the State that has the highest absolute performance over the three years for the “all students” group on the statewide assessments.

Schley Elementary Principal Brian Hall said, when contacted Monday, that the recognition came from the Schley Elementary making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and all of its subgroups in 2011. In addition to being recognized as Highest Performing School, there cannot be significant achievement gaps across subgroups that are not closing.
