AMERICUS —
Ted Eschmann of Preston has joined South Georgia Technical College as a full-time welding and joining technology Instructor on SGTC’s Americus campus, announced SGTC President Sparky Reeves recently. Eschmann has been employed with SGTC for the past five years as an adjunct welding instructor, and he is filling the full-time position that was recently vacated by retiree Duane Register.
“We are pleased to have Ted on our team as a full-time instructor now,” remarked Reeves. “He has already proved himself as an excellent instructor of welding and joining technology in his past five years as an adjunct instructor.”
Before SGTC, Eschmann was a Hudson Forest Equipment Dealer at Eschmann “4” Forestry Equipment, CNC Machinist at Thrust Aircraft, Machinist at Cooper Lighting, and a farmer.
Eschmann graduated from SGTC’s welding and joining technology program in 2000, then earned his advanced welding certificate, machine tool technology diploma, advanced machine tool technology diploma, and AWS Pipe Welding Certification from SGTC as well.
In addition to teaching welding and joining yechnology courses, Eschmann will be responsible for selecting and adapting instructional materials, selecting and assessing student learning outcomes, fostering effective learning in both classroom and lab settings, and promoting good public relations via contacts and regular communications with business, industry, and the public sector.
Eschmann and his wife Ashley reside in Preston. He is a member of the American Welding Society and Macedonia Baptist Church in Preston.
“I have enjoyed working at SGTC for the past five years and I’m excited to be a full-time instructor now,” said Eschmann.

Ru Story-Huffman named dean of GSW’s James Earl Carter Library
Ru Story-Huffman, interim dean of the James Earl Carter Library at Georgia Southwestern State University, was officially named dean. Prior to her role as interim dean, Story-Huffman served as reference librarian and government information coordinator at the Carter Library. She succeeds Vera Weisskopf who retired in March 2012.

Thirteen graduate from SGTC Law Enforcement Academy
South Georgia Technical College’s (SGTC) Law Enforcement Academy (LEA) recently held a graduation ceremony for its most recent graduates in the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on SGTC’s Americus campus. Thirteen individuals were recognized and received their Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification.

High school team heading to World Finals
This school year marked the first time that the Sumter County School System has produced an Odyssey of the Mind team in the high school-age category, and the team will travel May 22-25 to East Lansing, Mich., to compete in the World Finals competition. The team, from Americus-Sumter County High School (ASHS) North Campus is made up of ninth-graders Sarah Dye, Thomas Edge, Jacob Pritchard, Morgan Cloutier, Logan Bennett and Elliot Bennett.
