The following local residents were among 126 students from Georgia Southwestern State University who were recognized for earning a spot on the Fall 2011 Dean's List.

Cassie Barry, Tyler Daniel, Cameron Dixon, Marjorie Fletcher, Kayla Johnson, Seth Landis, Alex Lashley, William Nowell, Erica Parson, Brittany Wallace, Melissa Whitaker, Chelsey Breivogel, Ernestina Haynes, Erika Kelly and Smit Patel, all of Americus;
Leady Cuellar of Bogota; Milos Kleut of New Belgrade; Zhenzhong Li of Shanghai; Makiko Oshiro of Okinawa; KaiYu Wang of Shangyu; and Ling Bai of Yingkou.
To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must earn a semester GPA of 3.5 or better and take a minimum of 15 credit hours.

Ru Story-Huffman named dean of GSW’s James Earl Carter Library
Ru Story-Huffman, interim dean of the James Earl Carter Library at Georgia Southwestern State University, was officially named dean. Prior to her role as interim dean, Story-Huffman served as reference librarian and government information coordinator at the Carter Library. She succeeds Vera Weisskopf who retired in March 2012.

Thirteen graduate from SGTC Law Enforcement Academy
South Georgia Technical College’s (SGTC) Law Enforcement Academy (LEA) recently held a graduation ceremony for its most recent graduates in the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on SGTC’s Americus campus. Thirteen individuals were recognized and received their Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification.

Schley County Family Connection honors top two high school seniors
Schley County High School senior class valedictorian Ali Anderson and salutatorian Geena Hollis were honored at the April meeting of the Schley County Family Connection Collaborative.

High school team heading to World Finals
This school year marked the first time that the Sumter County School System has produced an Odyssey of the Mind team in the high school-age category, and the team will travel May 22-25 to East Lansing, Mich., to compete in the World Finals competition. The team, from Americus-Sumter County High School (ASHS) North Campus is made up of ninth-graders Sarah Dye, Thomas Edge, Jacob Pritchard, Morgan Cloutier, Logan Bennett and Elliot Bennett.
