Webster seniors learn how sweet it is

PRESTON — Seniors at Webster County High School in Jason F. Williams’ math 3 class ended their unit on matrices with a culminating task dealing with candy.

After being handed a sealed brown bag containing an unknown number of Reese’s cups, Whoppers, and Kit-Kats, along with the nutrition information for their bag and for each individual type of candy, students used matrices to find the exact number of each type of candy in the bag.

Once the quantities of each candy in their bag were verified, the students enjoyed the candy with their group members.

Williams even created a “Bonus Brainy Bag” of candy for the entire class to try and solve. Sydney Scott was the first student to correctly identify the quantity of each of the four varieties of candy in the bag.
