AMERICUS —
It seems as though some members of the Sumter County Board of Education are not the least bit worried about the complaints and allegations sent to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) regarding its recent actions.
Board members Alice Green, Willa Fitzpatrick and Board Chair Edith Ann Green say the Board has not been in violation of SACS policies. The Board’s Chair also has revealed her dismay that a citizen would complain to SACS. Green suggested that the person must not be aware of the implications of the school system losing its accreditation.
Should the people in the community remain silent when their elected officials act with impunity? The statement was a outright deflection of responsibility.
Instead of the school Boards’ members behaving responsibly — operating as a cohesive body and having productive discussions before calling votes, the Board’s Chair instead dodges any complaint that she has acted inappropriately and points her finger toward the accuser — a direct shifting of culpability — denial defined and the oldest trick in the book to evade accountability.
