Your Opinion - Gregory Polk speaks out

Boom Boom Room owner speaks out

In response to an article in Wednesday's newspaper, "Boom, Boom Room causes problems." My name is Gregory A. Polk and I am the proprietor of the "The Spot" aka "The B. B. Room." First, I would like to start out by letting the people who is as unfamiliar with "The Spot" as the people who spoke in the article, know the purpose for the place. The Spot is a "private club." People can come and get snacks, drinks and shoot pool. During their visit to the primacy, they are greeted within a welcoming environment and not exposed to profanity, inappropriate behavior or any illegal activities.

Contrary to what the people think, the Spot is not a bad place! The Spot was not created to be a neighborhood nuisance, but to be a place where friends can come to socialize and relax. The Spot has acquired the reputation from the outside loitering of the people who leave other clubs, looking for more socializing.

During their visit to "The Spot," the "club-goers" may not step foot inside The Spot. Instead they just come of there to loiter outside with others, drinking alcohol, and etc. and that's where most of the problems began. Some of the "club-goers" may get upset and exchange words with each other and then the trouble starts. They argue, fight or may even fire a shot. But this is nothing new to this neighborhood.

In the same neighborhood is another nightclub. My family and I have lived in Sunset Park since 1985, and during that time we have lived directly behind the this club. There have been cars blocking driveways, people fussing, fighting, shootings, stabbings and etc, before we moved up here. The neighborhood isn't complaining about the this club, instead they are complaining about The Spot. That's why I can't understand why things have to be so different now. No one is holding the owner accountable for the actions of his customers, so why are they trying to make me accountable for the people who come in the neighborhood to loiter at The Spot.

When a crowd gathers outside of the Spot, I am the one who is out there with a flashlight, directing the traffic to keep it moving, and when the crowd gets rowdy (inside or outside), I ask them to leave or I call the sheriff.

Just because the owner has a business license, he should not be excused from the problems in Sunset Park.

Sunset Park has had illegal activity going on before The Spot opened. So why complain about me? .

The very ones that are complaining about The Spot needs to clean-up around their homes (like they had been ordered to do, a few years ago and didn't), instead of worrying about The Spot. That could be the health hazard, instead of The Spot.

The Spot is here for the neighborhood. and have had cookouts and fish fry's to contribute free food to those that come..
