Our Opinion - Celebrating America

Celebrating America

This weekend as we celebrate the independence of our country, let’s not forget those who fought for it and those who continue to fight for it.

Freedom isn’t free, after all.

From the blood spilled during the American Revolution, all the way to today’s war in Iraq, someone has paid the ultimate sacrifice. We should remember them this weekend as well. We pray for our troops today as they are scattered around the globe, and for their families here at home.

Please don’t forget that the 4th of July holiday is not just a day off from work, a barbecue or other family gathering or a beach trip; it is a time to revere the democracy we enjoy here in the United States of America.

We want our nation to be what our founding fathers conceived it to be. We do not want to become a socialist nation; neither do we want a tyranny.

Every thinking person in this country needs to wake up and pay attention.

The best way we, as Americans, can honor our country is to be aware of what our “leaders” are doing, educate ourselves on the workings of government, vote and make government accountable for their actions.

Be safe this weekend, and never forget that freedom is never free.
