AMERICUS — Sumter Players Kids Week amazing

On July 16, the Sumter Players Youth Theatre presented a production of “The Pied Piper of Hamelin” at the Rylander Theatre. This play culminated a week of intensive work by a dedicated and professional production team. This opportunity was free to children in grades 1-5 as a public service to the youth in our community. If your child was not involved, he or she missed a wonderful week of fellowship and learning what the theater is all about. The Kids Week program is offered every summer, so don’t miss out next summer!

Our appreciation to all the members of the production team, many of whom are volunteers. The program director Irmgard Schopen-Davis and production manager Ray Mannila, instructors Jennie Hutchins, Megan Sleeth, Andrew Jones and Ashley Longacre worked tirelessly to help the children learn their lines. The workshop assistants and the lights and sound managers were outstanding. Lane Marchant is the Rylander technical director. Thanks to everyone who made such an outstanding opportunity available to the children in our area.

The children were having a wonderful time working on the play and were rewarded with a celebration party and free T-shirt after the performance. You won’t find more professional workers at any price to present theater basics to children. Don’t miss Kids Week at the Rylander Theatre next summer. This is a free program and supported in part by private donations. We are very appreciative to have such a children’s program available in Sumter County.
