AMERICUS — Congratulations to the South Georgia Tech Lady Jets and their dominating performance in Thursday's GJCAA championship against Middle Georgia College.
The Lady Jets led by as many as 10 in the first half before blowing out the Lady Warriors in the last 10 minutes of the game for a 73-53 win.
It's the team's first in the six years of the program.
SGTC lost in its first appearance in 2008, but left no doubt Thursday.
The Lady Jets have been the top-ranked scoring defense in the country over the last month and a half, and they held their three opponents in the conference tournament to 33, 43 and 53 points.
Monique Willis was the tournament MVP, and Americus native Dee Smith was the GJCAA Player of the Year. Brandan Harrell received the Coach of the Year honors for the second time in three seasons.
SGTC has a school-record 28 wins and will play the Region X winner this week for the right to go to the NJCAA Tournament in Salina, Kan.
