AMERICUS — Zack Stanton’s grand slam in the third inning was just what the Hurricanes ordered.
Stanton’s home run to left center broke a 2-2 tie as Georgia Southwestern went on to a 7-5 win against Brewton Parker on Tuesday. It was his second-consecutive game with a home run.
It was Stanton’s only hit of the game as GSW improved to 11-6 on the season. The Hurricanes are 9-1 at home.
Kevin Carroll was 3-for-3 with three RBI, which included a two-run home run in the second with two outs, as he and Stanton did all the offensive damage.
The Hurricanes used three pitchers on the mound, including starter Travis Barrett, who went 5.2 innings and allowed four runs on four hits with three strikeouts and four walks.
Corey Hawes cleaned up middle relief, and Chris Carroll picked up his third save of the season, pitching a hitless ninth.
Robby Kuzdale was 2-for-2 with a two-run homer in the first, and Brandon Stevens had two RBI on a double in the sixth for the Barons (19-7).
The Barons used six pitchers in the contest with starter Daniel Eaton (2-2) taking the loss. He allowed three runs on two hits in two innings of work. The final three pitchers held GSW scoreless after the third inning.
