From Staff Reports
AMERICUS — Georgia Southwestern senior Chris Rawls didn’t finish his career the way he liked.
Rawls played 19 minutes in the team’s finale and injured his knee in the process.
Despite that, Rawls finished eighth in the Peach Belt in scoring (15.3) and rebounding (7.2) while making more free throws (188) than any player attempted.
He was recognized by the conference coaches, being selected to the PBC’s Second Team.
Augusta State’s Ben Madgen was the Player of the Year, and Jaguars coach Dip Metress took Coach of the Year Honors. Augusta’s Daniel Dixon was Defensive Player of the Year, and UNC Pembroke’s Shahmel Brackett was Freshman of the Year.
Rawls was a preseason All-PBC selection, and he led the Hurricanes in scoring, rebounds, blocks, field goal percentage, free throw percentage and minutes played.
The Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. native scored in double figures 22 times, and had six double-doubles on the season, good for third in the PBC.
Rawls had a career-high 28 points at Francis Marion on Jan. 16.
He finished his career averaging 14.5 points and 7.4 rebounds in 53 games.
