Marion sweeps Brookstone to close regular season, Lady Eagles to host Region tournament

BUENA VISTA — In their first season on their new campus, Marion County High School will host the girl’s Region 4-A semi-final and championship games. The news came after the Lady Eagles defeated the Brookstone on Friday night to finish the regular season 15-7 overall with an incredible 13-1 region record to lock up the number one seed. Following the girl’s game, the Eagles also took down the Brookstone Cougars to their regular season 15-7 overall with a 9-5 Region 4-A record. The Eagles will travel to Hawkinsville on Thursday night to play the winner of the Pacelli/Brookstone game in the Region 4-A boy’s tournament.

The Lady Eagles of Marion opened the night Friday with a dominating win that was never really in question from the opening tip. Marion County coupled a big offensive performance with a stifling defensive effort as they built an early lead and cruised to a 72-48 victory over their region rival. The win for the Lady Eagles pushed their amazing Region 4-A record to 13-1 overall, and they Lady Eagles will now go into the region tournament with a first round bye. Although the Region 4-A tournament begins on Wednesday, Marion County’s first region tournament game will be at home on Friday in the semi-final round, putting the Lady Eagles in great position to take the region title.

The boy’s followed the Lady Eagles win with a huge win of their own over Brookstone, 71-56. The Eagles trailed 14-13 after one period, but a 21-12 second period run would send Marion County into the locker room with a 34-26 lead. The Eagles would continue to build on their lead with a 17-15 third period and a 20-15 fourth period to claim the 71-56 victory and earn themselves a first round bye in the region tournament.

Jalen Brown had a huge game on Friday night to pace his team to victory, putting up a massive double-double with 21 points and 21 rebounds.

Marion County High School encourages all local basketball fans to come out and support the Lady Eagles and all Region 4-A teams on Friday and Saturday in their brand new gymnasium. Tickets will only be $7, and only GHSA (Georgia High School Association) passes will be accepted, all other passes will be void.
