AMERICUS —
Basketball season may be officially over, but there are still plenty of hoops to be played. If you love basketball, then there is no reason to miss the Georgia Southwestern Basketball Camp. With the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes on hand to teach campers, the camp will give boys and girls ages 6-14 the ultimate basketball experience in Southwestern Georgia.
"The Georgia Southwestern Basketball Camp is a great chance to not only have fun and play basketball, but it's an even better chance to improve your skills with the help of our players," said Head Coach Mike Leeder.
With members of Georgia Southwestern basketball as camp counselors, campers will learn the fundamentals of basketball while having fun with three-point shooting competitions, dunk contests and other games. Campers will also get shirts, a chance to swim in the campus pool and a great photo to remember camp by.
The camp costs $105 with discounts available to return campers, families, siblings, and children of GSW employees and it will take place in the Storm Dome (Home of the Hurricanes) on the campus of Georgia Southwestern State University.
The first session will be Tuesday, May 29 through Friday, June 2, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The second session will be held Monday, June 4 through Thursday, June7, 2012 from 9a.m. to 4p.m. as well. The last session of the summer will take place from Tuesday, July 31 until Friday, August 3, 2012, with the same times.
Concessions will be open for campers, but campers should bring their own lunch. Children may arrive as early as 8:15 a.m. and stay as late as 4:45 p.m. and anywhere inbetween. Campers who submit registration form before May 15, 2012 and receive $10 off.

Four years ago, Dwight Harris noticed that many of the area’s local youth were cruising the streets and finding their way into trouble during the summer months between school years. Rather than looking the other way, Harris decided to make a difference by creating a summer time activity for local boys of all ages and races to participate in. In the summer of 2009 he began the Dwight Harris Boys Club of Americus, Inc. as a youth development program to give children a fun activity to keep them off the streets and bridge the local racial gap.
