Tifton holds event today for paralyzed Georgia Bulldog

TIFTON — A sports memorabilia auction/autograph session to benefit Chance Veazey will be held Friday at the UGA-Tifton Campus Conference Center.

The cost is $25 at the door to attend the event.

The autograph session will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will last until 6:30 p.m. The auction will begin at 7 p.m.

Among the notable names that will be in attendance at the event are reigning American League Rookie of the Year Gordon Beckham, Kansas City Royals pitcher Kyle Farnsworth, former Atlanta Brave and Falcon Brian Jordan, former Atlanta Falcon Michael Haynes and Valdosta State head football coach David Dean.

A number of former University of Georgia football legends will also be in attendance. Those players include Scott Woerner, Rex Robinson, Frank Ros, Tim Morrison, John Lastinger, Kevin Butler, Mike Cavan, Randall Godfrey and Mike Steele.

Tifton native Nick Green, who is in the Milwaukee Brewer farm system, will be on hand to sign autographs. There will also be a number of former professional athletes with Tifton and Tiftarea ties in attendance. Those names include Todd Fordham, Stan Shiver and Walt Sumner.

Another Tifton native, Wesley McGriff, who is now the secondary coach for the University of Miami Hurricanes, will also be present for the signing.

The auction itself will feature everything from a baseball signed by John Smoltz, Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux, to a racing helmet signed by NASCAR’s Carl Edwards. In total there will be nearly 140 items up for auction.

Besides the auction/autograph signing, there is also another benefit coming up to help raise money for Veazey.

A baseball and softball clinic will be held Feb. 6 at the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College softball and baseball fields.

The sessions will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and will feature former San Diego Padres manager Greg Riddoch, Georgia assistant baseball coach Kris Edge, former Florida State softball coach Joann Graf, former European national team coach Bobby Simpson and a number of former Tifton Tomboys and Florida State Lady Seminoles.

The clinics will be for players ages 6-to-18. The cost will be $60 per camper.
