ALBANY — Monique Willis scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as South Georgia Tech remained unbeaten in conference play with a 70-60 win at Darton on Thursday.
The Lady Jets (19-4, 5-0) held the Lady Cavaliers to 24 percent shooting from the floor and the GJCAA leading scorer Dominique Gilbert to 10 points and 11 rebounds.
“It was just a frustrating game to watch,” said coach Brandan Harrell. “The game itself had no flow to it. Good teams try to win on bad nights. We struggled against their zone tremendously, but I felt we played well enough defense to win the game, and that’s what won it for us.”
Dee Smith scored 16, and Ophelia McMath had another double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Zandreal Blakely scored 11, including two 3-pointers that were sandwiched between Brittani Jones taking two charge calls. Harrell said that was the turning point of the game as SGTC went up eight with about six minutes remaining.
The Lady Jets trailed 31-30 at the half.
Shaylia Jester had 14 points and eight rebounds for Darton (14-9, 4-3).
