AMERICUS —
Georgia Southwestern’s soccer teams fell in their respective season openers on Friday.
The Lady Hurricanes lost 3-1 to Thomas while the Hurricanes lost 3-0 to Eckerd.
Down 1-0, GSW’s Carolann Simpson scored on a rebound in the 61st minute. Thomas answered 1:20 later and scored again in the 81st minute.
Courtney Allison made nine saves for GSW as it was outshot 19-4.
The Lady Hurricanes host Eckerd at noon today.
The men was outshot 18-3, and goalie David Porley had six saves. GSW plays No. 5 Tampa today at noon in Columbus.

South Georgia Tech Lady Jets ranked 12th in nation in defense
South Georgia Technical College’s Lady Jets moved up five spots this week into 12th place in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s (NJCAA) team defensive poll. The Lady Jets have given up an average of 51.826 points per game, which is the 12th best defensive average in the NJCAA.
