Few Good Men to host football camp
AMERICUS — The group “Few Good Men” will be hosting a football camp for kids, ages 7-12, on Saturday.
Camp organizer Rodney Lewis said the group is “ordinary men doing an extraordinary thing.”
“This is something we all felt that was needed for the kids in the community,” said Lewis.
Americus-Sumter coaches and players will be running the one-day camp that will be highlighted with speakers Ferrell Wilson and Otis Leverette.
“We want our kids who play recreational football to do well on the field and become role models in the classroom, and furthermore, we want to instill in our high school players that they are role models for our younger kids,” said Marvin Harris, one of the organizers.
Campers will be tested in the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle run, running and receiving drills and blocking and tackling drills. A 7-on-7 football game will cap the day.
Parents my register their kids at Boone Park at 8 a.m. Kids need to bring shorts and cleats to compete during the events. The camp is free and food and drinks will be provided. The camp was organized by Lewis, Harris, Anthony Payne, Eric Finch, Jamell Greene and Coneilious Oliver.
