ATHENS — The Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele will host the Watermelon 100 on Saturday in part with the RC/MoonPie ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour.
It will be will be the fifth stop of the young season as the series has attracted drivers from all over the southeast including Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia.
Expected entries for the Watermelon 100 include series young guns Max Gresham, who is 15 and a two-time winner, Parker Hammons and Chase Elliott plus series veterans Jeff Chouquette and current point’s leader Jason Hogan who won the ASA Championship 100 at the speedway in October.
In addition to the ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour Late Models, local divisions including Bandoleros, Claimers, Mini Stock, Pure Stock and Super Street will be featured.
Pit gates open at 10:30 a.m. with ASA Latemodel practice at 1 p.m. and qualifying for the Watermelon 100 at 4:45 p.m. Local practice will be at 5:30 p.m. with heats at 6:30 p.m. and feature events beginning at 7:40 p.m. The ASA feature is scheduled for green flag at 9:30 p.m.
Grandstand gates open at 4 p.m. with adult admission being $15, kids 6-11 is $5, and under 5 is free. Fans can save $3 per ticket with proof of purchase from RC Cola and Moon Pie Products.
In addition, fans will have the opportunity to ride along in a Jeff Gordon Sprint Cup car courtesy of High Speed Racing Experience. Times for the ride along will be Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. The cost is $40 for six laps. Call (404) 630-6608 or (678) 373-9851 for more information.
