Fletcher named District Player of Year in Virginia

SALUDA, Va. — Jake Fletcher attended Southland Academy up to the age of 10.

Now, a Middlesex High baseball standout in Saluda, Va., Fletcher was selected the Tidewater District Player of the Year for 2009.

Fletcher batted .510, had 25 hits, including six doubles, two triples and four home runs. He scored 20 runs and drove in 12.

He was chosen First Team All-District as a pitcher and as a shortstop. He was 3-1, had an ERA of 2.07 with 35 strikeouts and 10 walks.

Fletcher was selected to play in the Virginia High School League All-Star Game in July at Christopher Newport University.
