ALBANY —
The Americus-Sumter Panther boys and girls swimming teams both finished their regular seasons with second place finishes at the Region 1-AAA Championships in Albany, Tuesday. The Panther boys crowned three individual event Region Champs—David Murphy in the 200 individual medley, Aaron Tyler in the 500 freestyle, and Jacob Eden in the 100 breaststroke. The boys 200 medley relay team of Murphy, Tyler, Eden and Bryce Benton also placed first.
In the girls meet, the Panthers had two veterans score runner-up points: Alaina Hudson in the 500 freestyle, and Lyndsie Pilcher in the 100 butterfly.
The GHSA State Championships will be held at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta on February 8 and 9. David Murphy—the Panthers' only qualifier—has made the qualifying time in seven of the eight events on the schedule. The rules permit each athlete to compete in a maximum of two events, and head coach John Daughety will be deciding which events Murphy will compete in by the end of the week.
