Marion County looks to upset No. 5 Greenville
DRANEVILLE — Marion County enters Friday’s final regular season game with an outside shot of claiming the third seed in Region 4-A.
The Eagles have to upset No. 5 Greenville while needing Schley County to upset Brookstone. Otherwise, they will enter the playoffs next week as the fourth seed.
Marion hopes to rebound from last week’s 29-14 loss to Chattahoochee County in which it committed six turnovers, including three that led to 21 points for the Panthers.
The Eagle defense held the Panthers to their lowest offensive output of the season, and it will need another defensive outing against the Patriots, which come in to the game at 9-0 on the year.
Greenville is led by quarterback Mario Alford, who can score from any point on the field and just about any way.
After scoring 14 points in the opener, the Patriots have averaged 38.3 points over the lat eight games. The defense has surrendered 27 points in the last six games, including four shutouts.
Ykeem Wells and Zamir Shelton both have more than 930 rushing yards on the season and have combined for 22 touchdowns. Solomon Jones leads the defense with 71 tackles while Corey Hulin and Delvin Hill have 59 and 56, respectively.
