Southland plays twice in two days
AMERICUS — On Friday, the Southland girls’ basketball team played Glenwood from Phenix City and won 51-47. The team came out flat and struggled with turnovers. The half-time score was 19-18. After settling down, the team was able to come out in the second half and make more shots from the floor.
The high scorers for Southland were Sara Cathryn Parker with 14 points and 10 rebounds, Tobi West, the high scorer of the game, got 17 points and 13 rebounds. Sara Schuster was the high scorer with 9 points for Glenwood was Bree Nowlin with 32 points.
On Saturday, the Southland girls’ basketball team played Harvester Christian out of Douglasville. It was a physical game and the coach said she was proud the girls kept their focus.
Eight girls scored. High scorers for Southland were Sara Cathryn Parker with 11 points, Caitlin Reid with 11 points and 11 rebounds, Tobi West with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Sara Schuster pulled off her second night of difficult defensive work and also managed to chip in 9 points and have 4 steals. The leading scorer for Harvester was Alicia Whittle with 14 points and Bella Whittle with 11 points.
