ALBANY —
The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets captured their second consecutive win Saturday in the Darton Classic as they coasted to a 63–43 win over West Georgia Technical College. They defeated Southern Union on Friday in the season opener.
“It was not pretty, but it was a win,” said South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets head basketball coach James Frey, after his team compiled their second win to remain unbeaten at 2 - 0 in the young season. “We did not play very well. We are going to have to get better if we want to continue to win.”
The Lady Jets jumped out to a 36–16 lead at the end of the first half, but West Georgia came back strong in the second half and matched the Lady Jets point for point. The 20-point lead at the end of the first half was the margin of victory for the Lady Jets in the 63–43 win.
Delisia Sharpe of Norfolk, VA, was the leading scorer and the leading rebounder for the Lady Jets with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Nikkei Blackburn of Bennettsville, South Carolina, was close behind Sharpe and also posted a double-double game with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Both players are freshmen.
Portia McCray of Loganville, Georgia, was the only other Lady Jets with double figures and she had 11 points and eight rebounds. Shaquaya Daniels followed with nine points and Courtne Washington tossed in seven points. Krysta Woods added six points and Rasheda Patterson closed out the scoring with five points.
The Lady Jets will return home on Saturday, November 10th when they host Georgia Gwinnett College at 4 p.m. in the Hangar. The Jets will play prior to the Lady Jets at 2 p.m. in the SGTC Classic competition. They play USC Salkehatchie.
After the 10th, the Jets and Lady Jets take to the road but both return home on November 20th for a double-header with Georgia Highlands College . The Lady Jets open at 5:30 and the Jets follow at 7:30 p.m.
