DAHLONEGA — Bud Long’s two-run double sparked a five-run sixth inning, and Zack Stanton’s two-run home run in the eighth provided enough insurance as Georgia Southwestern held on for an 8-7 win at North Georgia on Sunday.

The Hurricanes (10-6, 4-2) escaped the sweep after losing 3-1 and 9-6 on Saturday.

After taking a shot off the foot last weekend, Tyler Daniel (2-2) picked up the win, pitching five innings and allowing three runs on five hits. Chris Carroll recorded his second barely, getting Kenny Bellevance to ground out with runners on first and third to end the game.

Carroll pitched four innings, allowing four runs on three hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

GSW trailed 2-0 when it scored five in the sixth. It left two on in the inning and 14 runners were stranded in the game.

A Jared Allen RBI-double gave GSW a 6-3 lead in the seventh, and Stanton’s home run extended the lead to 8-5.

Stanton and Allen each had three hits, including a double, and two RBI for the Hurricanes.

Andre Airich led North Georgia (15-7, 6-3) with three hits and two RBI as three of the Saints’ runs were unearned.

The Saints used seven pitchers in the game, with Alex Simmons (0-1) taking the loss after facing one batter.

The Hurricanes are back in action today at home at 5 p.m. against Brewton Parker.
