PLAINS — Carrie Gonzales holds some Nutty Butter Fudge, her original recipe that got selected as a finalist in the UGA Flavor of Georgia Food Product Contest, outside of Plains Peanuts on Monday. Bobby Salter, owner of Plain Peanuts, on the right, will attend the awards ceremony next Monday and Tuesday.

Pope visits Phoebe Sumter Medical Center
Americus native Leonard Pope made his first visit to the new Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, which opened on December 16, 2011. The 183,000 square foot, 76-bed facility replaces the old hospital that was destroyed by an EF3 tornado on March 1, 2007.
