Americus

Farmers’ Market: Lenny’s Market is now open for business from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. today and Saturday.



Hydrant Testing: The Americus Fire and Emergency Services is conducting a second round of hydrant testing which will continue until all City hydrants have been tested. If your water is a reddish color, run the water for about 5-10 minutes to clear it. If it doesn’t, call 924-3213.



Change in Hours: There are changes in tthe walk-in clinical walk-in service hours at the Sumter County Health Department. Registration is from 8 a.m.-4:15 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday.



Christmas Parade: Ring in the holiday season with a charming down home parade and welcome Santa to Americus today.

Assessors’ Meeting: The Schley County Assessors meet at 5 p.m. today in the Schley County Courthouse in the Assessors’ Office. The meeting is open to the public.

Food Sign-up: The December sign-up for the SNAP program and USDA Second Food Harvest Program in Schley County is from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. today at The Church International on East Oglethorpe Street. Movie at the Market: Enjoy a great family outdoor event at the Saturday Movie at the Market located at Lenny’s Market on Hampton Street. Admission is free. Concessions available for purchase. Bring is your friends, family and a chair. Movie starts at 8 p.m.



Cookies With Santa: Magnolia Manor Retirement Center hosts Cookies with Santa from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday. Local photographer Mike Dalton will be on campus to capture your visit with Santa. Andersonville

Holloway’s Holly Day: Please join the City of Andersonville as they celebrate Christmas, with its third annual "Holloway's Holly Day" from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at Pioneer Park. Free admission. For more information call 924-2068. In addition to delightful local shops, local vendors are invited to participate offering a vast array of unique holiday gift items. Santa will arrive at 3 p.m., with gifts for all the little ones! A professional photographer will be there for pictures with Santa, which will be available for purchase. There will also be a free children's area, with inflatables and baby-sitting.

Fruit Sale: The Schley County Association of Concerned Citizens Inc. Atlanta Branch is selling fresh fruit: Navel oranges 20 lbs./$18, 40 lbs./$32; red grapefruit 20 lbs./$18, 40 lbs./$32; juice oranges 20 lbs./$18, 40 lbs./$32; tangelos 20 lbs./$18, 40lbs./$32; red and golden Granny Smith apples 20 lbs./$25, 40 lbs./$40. Hospital Authority: The Americus and Sumter County Hospital Authority holds a called meeting at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 7 in the conference room in the community room at Sumter Bank & Trust, 201 E. Lamar St. The meeting is open to the public.



IDA Meeting: The Americus-Sumter Industrial Development Authority meets at 4 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Rees Park Economic Development Center, 409 Elm Ave., in the conference room on the second floor. The meeting is open to the public.



PDA Meets: The Americus-Sumter Payroll Development Authority meets at 4 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Rees Park Economic Development Center, 409 Elm Ave., in the conference room on the second floor. The meeting is open to the public.



Lions Club: The Americus Lions Club has its Christmas party at noon Dec. 8 at Ryan's Family Steak House. Duncan Sinclair, District Lighthouse director of Moultrie, presents the program. All Lions and their guests are invited.



Greenspace Anniversary: The second celebration of the anniversary of the GSW Walking Trail is from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 9, sponsored by the Sumter County Unit, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The public is invited.

Tour of Homes: Sumter Historic Trust's 2009 Christmas Tour of Homes is noon-6 p.m. Dec. 12. All tour sites are historic homes or buildings of various architectual designs built between 1853 and 1921. The tour offers two ticket options. Tickets are $20 for the tour of homes only. Tour ticket plus cocktail buffet that evening at the Lee Council House is $65. Tickets are available at Americus Welcome Center, 123 W. Lamar St.; Minick Interiors on Cotton Avenue; Windsor Parlor, 117 N. Jackson St. or any member of the Trust's board of directors.



Leesburg

Beauty Pageants: Girls ages 1-15 years are invited to participate in the Little Miss South Georgia Pageants set for Jan. 9 at Lee County High School. There are five divisions of competition: Wee Miss, ages 1-2; Petite Miss, ages 3-5; Little Miss, ages 6-9; Junior Miss, ages 10-12, and Teen Miss, ages 13-15. The winner in each division wins a prize package that includes a cash award of $100, a crown and more. In addition to the on-stage competitions, there will be optional competitions for Miss Photogenic and Prettiest Dress. Entry fee for the stage competition is $30, and the fee for each of the optional competitions is $10. Entry forms and complete pageant details are available at each of the Lee County schools and by contacting dotty@bellsouth.net. There is limited space in each division. Girls from across South Georgia are invited to participate. The pageant sponsors will host a tea for interested girls and their parents at 2 p.m. Dec. 13 at Lee County High School. Those attending the tea will have an opportunity to rehearse at that time. The deadline for entering the pageants is Jan. 4. The pageants are sponsored by the Leesburg and Lee County Jr. Miss Scholarship Programs and the LCHS Theatre Arts Program.

Ambassadors Needed: The Ambassadors of the Americus-Sumter County Chamber of Commerce are looking for new members. Chamber member businesses are invited to nominate someone to join this elite group of business minded individuals who perform volunteer work on behalf of the Chamber.
