Jaelyn Wynn of Ellaville, was selected as the South Georgia Technical College Student of Excellence for March. The Criminal Justice student was nominated for the honor by her instructor, Teresa McCook. Julie Partain, SGTC Vice President of Academic Affairs made the presentation.
The Student of Excellence award is given each month to one student from select divisions, chosen based on criteria such as grades, participating in clubs and organizations, work ethic, and program completion. Instructors nominate students who excel in those areas. Barbering, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Early Childhood Care and Education, Medical Assisting and Nursing were the programs honored this month.
“Jaelyn is an excellent student,” said SGTC Criminal Justice Instructor Teresa McCook. “She had a goal and a vision for her life and South Georgia Technical College is helping her to achieve those goals and visions.”
Wynn began attending South Georgia Tech as a dual enrollment student. After high school graduation, she left and attended a university. She later returned to SGTC and will be earning her diploma and associate degree in Criminal Justice in December. She plans to continue her education and earn a bachelor’s degree.
Wynn thanked her instructor and her family after she learned she had been named the SGTC Student of Excellence for March. “I am very honored,” said Wynn. “I have a quote that I live by. It is: ‘we cannot become what we want, by remaining what we are.’”
She challenged the other students in attendance to “work for your goals because hard work really does pay off. Just keep going and pushing yourself no matter what. I think God, my family, and everyone else for their encouragement,” added Wynn.
Other students nominated for the award were: Phillip Hunt of Cordele, Barbering Technology nominated by his instructor Andrea Robinson and presented by DeAndre Victor; Maryann Reiselbara of Plains, Cosmetology, nominated by Dorothea McKenzie; Robert Lawson of Butler, Culinary Arts, nominated by Chef “Ricky” Watzlowick; Rebecca Parks of Americus, Early childhood Care and Education, nominated by Jaye Cripe; Carrica Findley of Americus, Medical Assisting, nominated by Sheri Bass; and Aumadia Lewis of Americus, Practical Nursing, nominated by Jennifer Childs.
