Unlimited career and educational opportunities! That’s what students were exposed to during the South Georgia Technical College Spring Take-Off Open House in the James S. Peters gymnasium on the Americus campus, Friday, April 25 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
“This was a great day,” said South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford. “I am so proud of the faculty and staff who put all of this together to showcase the different academic programs and activities available here. We truly offer the ‘complete college experience’ with nationally recognized academics, student activities, and intercollegiate activities. And we have on campus housing.”
Nearly 250 students from area schools attended the event which encouraged them to engage their hands and their minds while also previewing many of the over 200 associate degree, diploma, and technical certificate of credit educational programs offered at SGTC.
Students were invited to this free event to meet instructors, staff, and current students. They were given the opportunity to learn more about the wide variety of programs and career preparedness available with eight weeks up to two years of education.
Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and sodas were provided to those who participated. A free application code of APRIL25 will be valid from April 25 – 30 for everyone who applies to attend SGTC summer or fall semester. There were opportunities to win door prizes as well as SGTC Foundation Scholarships.
“This was a tremendous opportunity for individuals to see the campus and learn more about the programs offered in our community,” said South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford. “We had a great response from area high schools and the local community. If someone is uncertain about a career field, this was a great opportunity to come out and learn more about our programs and exciting careers.”
The purpose of the Spring Take-Off is to highlight each of South Georgia Technical College’s program areas, and inform prospective students of educational, financial aid opportunities, career placement, clubs and organizations, and the other services SGTC offers. All South Georgia Technical College faculty and staff were on hand to help with the event and answer questions.
Individuals interested in enrolling at South Georgia Tech for Summer Semester are urged to sign up soon. Registration and orientation for Summer Semester will be held on May 20. Summer semester begins May 22 and continues through July 28. Students have a summer break, June 30 – July 4. Fall semester begins August 18.
