Lydia Dixon was named Teacher of the Year by Sumter County Intermediate School. “I feel deeply humbled and honored. This recognition is a reflection of God’s [grace], guidance and purpose over my life. I give God the glory for equipping me with the passion, patience, and purpose to do what I love.”
Dixon has 11 years of experience as a teacher, eight in Jamaica and three years in the U.S. at Sumter County Intermediate School. She shared what inspired her to become a teacher. “My mother was a teacher and I wanted to follow in her steps. I like the idea of getting someone to understand a concept. I want to make a difference. My philosophy is that every child CAN learn and every child MUST learn. “
When asked about what challenges she faced as a teacher, Dixon replied; “I don’t see things as a challenge – I see it as a step in growth as I find solutions. I trust in God to help me deal with whatever issues we face.”
She also shared what she loved most about the job. “The relationships that I build with my kids and their parents. I love seeing them willing to work and to do better.”
